Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine the study habits of secondary school students in terms of several variables. Research is carried out by survey method. The population of the study is secondary school students on the academic year 2013-2014 in Diyarbakir. The sample of the study consists of 357 students which have been selected with random sampling method. In this resarch, the study habits nventory was used as a data collection tool which was developed by Uluğ (1981). In data analysis, as well as descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis H test are used as statistical techniques. Analysing the results of research, the study habits of secondary school students are in high level. Secondary school students study habits scores differ in a meaningful way by the variables as; gender, class, additional courses, immigration status and number of children at home. But according to the study room variable, no meaningful differences has been found. According to the findings of the study, secondary school students' study habits are found to be at the good level. Secondary school students' study habits differs significantly in terms of gender, class, extra hours, immigration and number of siblings in the family whereas there is no significance in terms of a specific room for studying. Based on the findings suggestions are developed both for the researchers and practitioners. Suggestions for practitioners; to improve study habits of students schools should create studying environment after school; to study at home effectively, parents should create a studying environment which is simply equipped, has litted enough, should be appropriate to the physical development of students, a lesson plan should be prepared in school with the participation of teacher, student and parents appropirate for each students qualifications. Suggestions for researchers are; research on the study habits should be diversified on primary, secondary and university levels, in order to examine secondary school students' study habits, the qualitative research should be done in more details, secondary school students study habits and academic achievements, researches should be done in terms of attending school and how to be away from violence.
