The effect of attachment relationship of middle school students to their parents to the internet addiction

The object of this survey is to search student's internet addiction in terms of parents' attachment relation and different demographic variables by defining 6th,7th and 8th grades students' internet addiction range. In this survey relationally model has been used. This survey covers the students studying middle schools in Maltepe, İstanbul, 2014-2015 years. Besides, 129 girls and 102 boys totaly 231 students joined to this surveys' sample.Getting data for this research, "Personal Information Form", "Adolescent's Internet Addiction Scale " and "Kerns Secure Attachment Scale" were used.The points getting from measuring instruments used in the survey were analyzed with SPSS 15.0 statistic program. For comparing both scales' points according to sex, having a computer at home Dependent Two Samples Test was used for comparing.At the same time, One-way Anova Test was used for comparing both scales' points in terms of grade, mother's educational background, father's educational background, success, family financial situation, internet connection ways, object of internet usage, passing time on the internet.To define the relationship between Kerns Secure Attachment Scale's and Internet Addiction Scale's points, Pearson Correlation was used. The results of the survey shows that internet addiction points differs significantly to student's grade. 8th grades students' internet addiction level is dramatically higher than the low class students.It was deduced that internet addiction doesn't differ signicantly according to sex, parent's educational background, socio-economic level, academic success. After all, it was deduced that there is a meaningfull relation between the internet addiction points and purpose of internet usage, time of internet usage and having a computer at home.There is not a meaningfull relation between the sex and secure attachment to mother. But secure attachment to father points differs significantly to the sex. The relation of girls' secure attachment to father is deduced higher than the boys.It's found out that there is a significant relation between addiction and socio-economic level. Between the secure attachment to mother of father's points and internet addiction, there is a low level negative sides and dramatically important relation.
