Views of secondary school science students, administrators and teachers on information network in education: The case of Bitlis

Advances in technology accelerate the studies on the use of technology in education. It is seen that the importance of the education information Network platform, which is a product of technology and developed by general directorate of innovation and educational Technologies, has increased for stakeholders, especially during the pandemic period. Therefore, it is important to know what the views of these stakeholders are about education information Network, as education information Network enables administrators, teachers and students to come together in a virtual environment by creating a school environment during the pandemic period. In this context, the aim of the research is to determine the views of science teachers, students and administrators about the educational information network. For the study, an explanatory sequential mixed design, which is a mixed method research in which both quantitative and qualitative research methods are utilized together, was used. The study was carried out with 63 administrators, 120 Science teachers and 3462 students in secondary schools with smart boards in Bitlis and its districts in the 2019-2020 academic year. Quantitative data, "Teachers, administrators and students' Opinions Questionnaire about the Purpose of Use of Education Information Network and education information Network"; Qualitative data were collected with semi-structured interview questions prepared by the researcher. Number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum values were determined as descriptive findings. Qualitative data, on the other hand, were put to content analysis, and themes, categories and codes were created according to the answers given by students, administrators and teachers. In the quantitative findings, there was a gender difference in the " Education Information Network Opinion" sub-dimension for administrators. In addition, there was no difference between administrators and other variables, including teachers. The administrators and teachers expressed a positive opinion according to the "Opinion", "Purpose of Use" sub-dimension averages, but there are some deficiencies of Education Information Network (infrastructure, course and exam question contents, problem of accessing the content, guidance, etc.) and teachers use education information network more. It has been seen that they are used as a very helpful resource, and for live lessons during the pandemic. There was a statistically significant difference according to the variables in the "Opinion", "Purpose of Use" sub-dimensions of the students, and in the " Education Information Network Total Scale" score (EBATotal=3.11). In addition, in general, the students expressed a positive opinion according to the "Opinion" and "Education Information Network Total Scale" sub-dimension averages, but they did not express a positive opinion according to the "Purpose of Use" sub-dimension averages. In the qualitative findings in the pandemic period, it was seen that the students generally gained more information about Education Information Network compared to the pre-pandemic period, and the rate of using Education Information Network increased. In addition, positive differences were observed in the sub-dimensions of "Opinion" and "Purpose of use" in administrators and teachers compared to the pre-pandemic period. As a result, some concrete suggestions were presented regarding the fact that the opinions of the stakeholders should be included in order for education information network to be used easily and smoothly for all its stakeholders.
