Abstract (EN)

Metaphor analysis method is the process of analyzing the data produced by abstract cognitive objects for easily understood; known and unknown concepts that are comprehended easily by the applied people. In recent years, it has been started to use in many fields of qualitative studies. Although this method is used quite little in fields such as music, music education and music skills, it conducts the relationship between music lesson and metaphor factors by representing a main field in the study. The research is being descriptive as led by metaphor analysis and it has been created through data collection technique rest upon qualitative method by means of metaphors. The population of the study includes secondary school students and its sample is composed of three secondary schools in Battalgazi, Malatya and their 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. In the sample of the study are 251 students providing data for the study. In order to obtain data by means of metaphors, an explanation for the meaning of metaphor was made to the students before the questionnaire. Then, some examples were given and in this way consolidation was provided. The students were given the sentence "Music lesson is like ……….. because ………." and by means of this, they were requested to combine cognitive and abstract concepts and produce metaphors that are compatible with music lesson. As a result of the survey, 251 students have pruduced 251 metaphors, which shows that the study has brought about the value of metaphor development. Not all of the sentences made by the students have been included in the determinated categories as some of them had meaningless sentence structure and didn't explain the metaphor properly. It shows that besides this situaition complies with the students' many developmental characteristics, several variables such as their vocabulary knowledge, socio-cultural effects, residental places and environmental factors have a great effect on formation of the metaphors. In conclusion, the most frequently used metaphor is the 'game' metaphor that is created by seventeen students. Twenty one different categories were produced together with the other produced metaphors. Since metaphors produced in this study can not be clarified, thirty eight categories stated under the title 'metaphors which are not included in any category In the study, it has been identified that Orduzu Mecit Şahaplıoğlu Secondary School is the school where the same meytaphors have been used the most with a %25 rate within its own metaphor differences. This school is followed by Orduzu Küme Evleri Secondary School with a rate of %23 and Hanımın Çiftliği Secondary School with a rate of %14. The students of the 8th grade have come up with varied metaphors in accordance with students of other grades and the ones that have come up with the same metaphors are mostly from the 5th and 6th grades, which clearly shows that level of the education affects the vocabulary.
