Investigation of the effects of secondary school students' social media use on physical activity and nutrition habits (Sample of the province of Kars)

The aim of this study is "Examination of the Effects of Secondary School Students' Social Media Use on Physical Activity and Nutritional Habits (Kars Province Example)". In this study, literature review model was used. Quantitative research techniques were used in the data analysis of the three scales applied in this study. In the study, "Social Media Usage Purposes Scale" was applied to examine secondary school students' use of social media, "Child Physical Activity Questionnaire (CFA)" to examine physical activity levels, and "Attitude Scale towards Healthy Eating" was applied to examine their eating habits. The sample of the study consists of 334 students selected from the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades studying in secondary schools in the Susuz district of Kars. SPSS package program was used in the research findings. In the analysis part of the research, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), independent groups t-test and correlation analysis were performed. Students frequently use YouTube, one of their social media networks; Facebook, Messenger etc. It was determined that they mostly do not use the networks. It was determined that the students had a moderate level of physical activity. It has been determined that the students' healthy eating habits are at a moderate level. All these studies show that both families, teachers and students should pay attention to their eating habits. According to the results obtained, it was seen that the social media use and eating habits of secondary school students did not differ according to the gender variable. (p>0.05)
