Middle school studen's difficulties with basic transaction priority issues

Within the scope of this thesis, the difficulties experienced by middle school students in problem solving skills related to operation priority were investigated by arithmetical context. In addition, it was determined how the difficulties experienced changed in different grade levels and which difficulties repeated themselves. This study, in which the scanning model was used, is a descriptive study. The study group of the research consists of 392 secondary school students studying in a public school in Gaziantep province Şahinbey district. The data were collected by a test created by the researcher and the expert. The analysis of the data was made with content analysis, one of the qualitative analysis methods. The findings obtained from the analysis of the data were collected under five headings. These titles are; Questions with exponential expressions, questions with parentheses, priority of multiplication, priority of division and operations with the same priority. When the findings were examined, it was seen that there were students who had difficulties in ordering the basic operations necessary to solve any mathematical problem. It is thought that the results obtained from the research will contribute to the studies on operation priority and mathematics education.
