Investigation of social studies lesson 5th grade students' perceptions of institutions that meet social needs through the paintings they draw and activities

Institutions meet the social needs that people need to survive in society. People's needs such as shelter, food, friendship, dependency and reproduction are met by social institutions. The aim of this study is to examine the perceptions of 5th grade middle school students about institutions that meet social needs through the pictures they draw and the activities they do. Within the framework of this purpose, the research was designed and conducted with action research, one of the qualitative research methods. The research was conducted in a middle school located in Muratpaşa District of Antalya province. The study group consisted of 27 students attending the fifth grade of the middle school. The qualitative data of the research were collected through brainstorming, pictures drawn by the students, stator activity, NGO activity and 'what I realized, what I learned, what I felt' activity related to these activities. Twelve sessions and a total of 24 hours of practice were conducted with the study group. After all the applications were completed, feedbacks were received from the students as a general evaluation. The data obtained from the study group were analyzed using descriptive analysis and content analysis. When the results of the study are evaluated in general, it is seen that fifth grade students learned about the institutions that meet social needs and their perceptions of institutions were clearly reflected in the pictures they drew and the activities they did.
