Investigation of the relationship between secondary school teachers' perception of instruction planning proficiency and curriculum literacy levels

There exist some competencies teachers are required to have in order for educational process to achieve predetermined objectives. Teachers need to have knowledge of the curriculum to be implemented and make preparations for the process beforehand. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between secondary school teachers' perceptions of instructional planning and their curriculum literacy levels. In line with this purpose, relational screening model was used in the research. The universe of the research consists of 5448 secondary school teachers working in Diyarbakır central districts (Kayapınar, Yenişehir, Sur, Bağlar) in 2021- 2022 spring semester. The sample of the research comprises 675 secondary school teachers determined by simple random sampling method. The Scale for Perception of Proficiency in Instructional Planning" developed by Gülbahar (2016) and "The Scale for Curriculum Literacy Level" by Kahramanoğlu (2019) were used as data collection tools. The scales were applied face to face. In addition to descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient were made use of in data analysis. In the results of the research, it was determined that there is no significant difference in the secondary school teachers' perceptions of instructional planning according to gender, age, faculty of graduation, school type, weekly hour of lessons, getting in-service training. It was found that gender, school type, weekly hour of lessons, and getting in-service training cause significant differences in the secondary school teachers' levels of curriculum literacy. It was concluded that there is a positive relationship between the secondary school teachers' perceptions of instructional planning and their curriculum literacy levels. At the end of the research, such suggestions were made as follows: Qualitative research providing deeper data by using interview and observation technique can be carried out on this subject or new research can be done in relation to the effect of the courses taken in the educational faculties on the teacher candidates' development of their perceptions of instructional planning and curriculum literacy levels.
