The evaluation of literary texts in secondary school Turkish course books with respect to criteria of children literature

The aim of this study is to examine literary texts in Turkish secondary school textbooks in terms of children's literature. In this study, the literary texts in the secondary school textbooks were examined in terms of the internal structure and the external structure properties that constitute the basis of the children's literature. In the study, the qualitative research design, which is one of the qualitative research models, was used. In the research, literary texts included in the Turkish, 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade Turkish textbooks published by the Ministry of National Education were accepted as population and the researcher has reached the whole population. At the stage of collecting the data of the research, firstly in the literature, surveys were made about the children's literature criteria and a checklist containing the criteria of children's literature was formed. The criteria of children's literature are firstly divided in terms of form and content characteristics. Font size and font, images, page layout criteria as format; The theme, subject, message (main idea), language and expression, plan, heroes are determined as the content. As a result of the research, it was concluded that the fifth grade Turkish textbook was generally in accordance with the criteria of children's literature. It is concluded that the photographs and pictures of the 6th grade Turkish textbook should be chosen more carefully and it should be re-examined in terms of language and expression. In addition it is concluded that the covers of the 7th and 8th grade Turkish textbook sare not interesting, its pictures and photographs are not suitable for the text, it doesnt have aesthetic value, and that it should be re-examined in terms of language and expression.
