Examination on the fictional texts in secondary school Turkish textbooks

In the study, it is aimed to put forth was to determine how much suitable for children's level fictional text in Turkish textbooks in secondary schools are on account of form, content and readability. The universe of this qualitative research using the screening model constitutes 78 fictional text (5,6,7,8 th grade) in six Turkish textbooks belonging to 4 publishing house which are approved to be read in secondary schools by the Ministry of National Education in the 2017-2018 academic year. Document analysis technique was used in 32 fictional texts selected as a sample from these. These fictional texts were evaluated on the basis of principle of relativity to child at three main headings and totally fourteen subheadings as content characteristics (genre, theme, subject, plot, person staff, space, time, point of view and narrator, main thoughts and auxiliary thoughts, language and style, title-text conformity, text-genre conformity), formal characteristics (Text-image relationship, page layout) and the readability of the text. Quantitative results obtained from the research are presented in tables. Fictional texts in secondary school Turkish textbooks were found to be highly suitable for children's level and Turkish curriculum. Unsuitable points are put forth by explanations and Recommendations have been made on fictional texts will be given a place in textbooks.
