Examination of achievement levels of values education given in physical education and sports course in secondary schools(Burdur sample)

The aim of this study is to investigate whether there is a significant difference in achievement of values education goals given in physical education and sports courses in secondary schools according to variables of gender and doing active sports or not. The problem of this research is "What is the achievement level of values education goals given in physical education and sports course taught in secondary schools? ". Sub problems are as follows: Is there a significant difference in terms of gender about acquiring values with physical education and sports course? and Is there a significant difference in acquisition of values with physical education and sports course according to status of doing active sports or not? This study is a correlational survey model which is one of the survey models. In this type of research, mostly, descriptive statistical techniques are used. The study group of research consists of 828 students who are 8th grade students in secondary schools in Burdur in the fall semester of 2018-2019 academic year. The selection of study group was determined according to convenient sampling technique. The data of study were collected with Physical Education and Sports Course Values Scale (BESDD) developed by the researcher. This scale consists of 4 categories and 17 items. The data were analyzed with computer programs. According to the findings of the research, some of the results are as follows: In the objectives of "National, Universal and Cultural Values" ; there was no statistically significant difference according to gender variable about objective of "I make inferences by examining importance Atatürk gives to sports and athletes". In other words, there is no opinion difference in the answers in terms of genders. According to these data, it can be said that the rate of achieving this objective is at medium level. In the objective of "I take responsibility in festivals, celebrations and ceremonies, it is seen that the participants have a medium level in total and the female participants acquire more than males in terms of gender variable. No significant difference was found according to the gender variable for the objective of "I research folk dances of other cultures ". When this value objective was examined in terms of doing active sports or not, no significant difference was found as a result of comparative statistical analysis. There was no statistically significant difference between answers given to the other value, "I perform folk dances of other cultures" according to the gender variable. A significant difference was found in comparative statistical analysis when the answers given to this value objective were examined according to the variable of doing active sports or not.
