A sociological study on occupational health and safety culture in secondary schools: The case of Diyarbakir

In this study occupational health and safety at schools is discussed in the example of Diyarbakır province in Turkey. Occupational health and safety at schools, accidents students experienced and their attitude and behaviours about occupational health and safety are examined. It is indisputable that occupational health and safety has a place in being protected from ailments and accidents. Occupational health and safety is started to be applied at schools as a result of students' facing dangers and having accidents. That they still take place indicates the significance of the topic. That is the most significant reason why this topic is chosen as a research object. When occupational health and safety is tackled, students' views regarding this topic are appraised. The method of this research is descriptive study and questionnaire technique, that used one of the quantitative research, is conducted The questionnaire study is conducted the students studying at secondary school in Diyarbakır province. According to the data that are acquired, the occupational health and safety precautions applied at schools are insufficient. School and school environment should be secure places where every sort of protective measures taken for children. Children do not know the term of accident and safety. Equipment related to occupational health and safety does not exist at schools and students do not know what it means. It is necessary to raise the awareness and to form the culture of occupational health and safety. The significance of the education of occupational health and safety is disregarded.
