A Task Design About How to Remove Stdudents? Difficulties Relating to Pattern ConceptThe aim of this research is to define students? difficulties relating to pattern concept and prepare a lesson scheme to overcome these difficulties.In this research, qualitative research methods were used in an appopriate way focusing on the research and research questions. Action research that is one of the qualitative research methods was adopted because it was aimed to develop a lesson scheme by investigating students? difficulties relating to students? algebraic generalization process.The participants are 13 students who are the 7th grade students of Raşit Özkardeş Primary School during 2010-2011 academic year in the first term.These participants were determined according to purposeful sampling strategy.The data was collected by observation, video records and the notes taken during the practice process.Three data collecting tools were used.The first one is the open-ended problems which were prepared to define the students? difficulties and the students? pre-learning experience relating to their number pattern generalization. The tasks which were prepared to remove students? difficulties are the second tool.The third tool is the open-ended problems aiming to find the changes on the students? difficulties after the practice.The data analysis bring out that students have showed an important development on difficulties relating to pattern concept. On the result of the research, it is defined that students developed a great change on using strategy,doing algebraic generalization, using notation and using the models to find the rules.It is thought that the results will contribute to the educators particularly about how to overcome difficulties on patterns and how to prepare an taskKey Words: Pattern, Student Difficulties, Algebraic Generalization, Task Design
