Morphological and morphometric evaluation ofos sacrum and hiatus sacralis

Objective: This study was carried out in order to guide future studies and contribute to the literature by examining the morphology and morphometry of the os sacrum and hiatus sacralis in detail. Material and Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 68 dry os sacrum samples in the laboratory of Adnan Menderes University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Anatomy. In evaluating the morphology of os sacrum and hiatus sacralis, the shape, apex and base level of the hiatus sacralis were examined. In evaluating the morphometry of the os sacrum and hiatus sacralis, the length, width and depth of the hiatus sacralis were examined. Measurements were made based on the hiatus sacralis apex, foramina sacralia posterior (S2), basis ossis sacri, apex ossis sacri, and right and left crista sacralis lateralis. The canalis sacralis and the length and width of the os sacrum were examined. The distances and angles of the triangle formed by the with of the highest point of the hiatus sacralis and the upper points of the right and left crista sacralis lateralis were compared. It was examined statistically. P<0.05 was considered significant. Results: No statistically significant difference (p>0.05) was found when the distances and angles of the triangle formed by the with of the apex of the hiatus sacralis and the upper points of the right and left crista sacralis lateralis were compared. When other morphological and morphometric evaluations of the os sacrum and hiatus sacralis were compared with the literature, some similarities and differences were observed. Conclusion: We think that the results of this study will be beneficial for clinicians in surgical approaches to the os sacrum and hiatus sacralis.
