Abstract (EN)

Plants have been used for various purposes such as food, shelter, heating, hunting, poison, and medicine throughout human history. The fact that they have such a wide range of uses has increased the popularity of plants. Plants are one of the indispensable elements of the human diet. They are also unique, natural products that are used in the production of many drugs from a medical perspective and have no alternative. These properties of plants are due to the secondary metabolites they contain. In recent years, due to the inadequacy of synthetic drugs used in the fight against diseases and their possible side effects, the use of natural products such as plants due to their medical properties has been increasing. Within the scope of this thesis, it was aimed to determine the phenolic contents and biological activity of Inula germanica L. collected from Osmaniye province. In this context, the plant was extracted with ethanol and methanol in the Soxhlet device. The phenolic contents of the compounds in the plant were scanned with the LC-MS device. In addition, total antioxidant and total oxidant activities were determined within the scope of biological activity, and antimicrobial activities were determined. In addition, total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also determined. As a result of the studies, it was determined that the ethanol extract of the plant had a higher antioxidant level compared to the methanol extract. In contrast, it was observed that the methanol extract of the plant had a higher oxidant level and oxidative stress index compared to the ethanol extract. It was also determined that the ethanol extract of the plant generally exhibited higher antimicrobial activity compared to the methanol extract. The plant extracts were effective against standard bacterial and fungal strains at concentrations between 50-400 μg/mL. 16 of the 24 compounds screened in the plant were determined. It was also observed that the total phenolic content of the plant was higher in the ethanol extract and the total flavonoid content was higher in the methanol extract. As a result, it was determined that I. germanica could be an important natural source in pharmacological designs. Key Words: Andızotu, antioxidant, antimicrobial, Inula, medicinal plants
