Abstract (EN)
This study explores the bilateral relations between the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire. Besides statistical data from both countries, we also analyze archival documents, periodicals and trade documents produced by Ottoman consulates. In the first part of the study, the historical relations between the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire are examined in detail. This includes exploring the connections between cities in German geography and the Ottoman Empire, particularly before the establishment of the German Empire. The role of Prussia, the Hanseatic League, and the Zollverein in these relations are also examined. Additionally, the study looks at how the German Empire and the Ottoman Empire drew closer together during the reigns of Bismarck and Kaiser Wilhelm II. In particular, the study focuses on Wilhelm II's policy of Weltpolitik and its impact on bilateral relations between the two empires. In the second part, the focus shifts to German companies operating in the Ottoman Empire and the details of their activities. This includes examining German companies working in various sectors, such as banking, agriculture, railway and maritime transport. In the third part, statistical data from both the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire is analyzed and presented as tables. The data includes information on various sectors, such as agriculture, mining, weaving, and leather products, and is derived from sources such as petitions prepared by Ottoman consuls and secondary literature. The study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the relationship between the Ottoman Empire and the German Empire before the First World War.
