Abstract (EN)
The modern Republic of Turkey has been founded with the leadership of Ataturk after succeeding in the Turkish People?s Independency War. The main objective of newly establishment was to constitute and form a modern and secular republic. In order to achieve this Democratic administration has introduced a new education system compared to the Ottoman State?s one.In order to make right analysis on the period of education policy and transformation conduced to changes and new developments at the Republic one must examine especially the educational developments after the period of Tanzimat of the Ottoman?s education system. Ottoman?s education organization consisted of mektep (school), medrese (moslem theological school) and Enderun didn?t change at all till 18th century. However, beside the existing schools military schools carrying that western manner were opened dating from the 18th century; civil schools together with mektep and medrese were opened dating from the period of Tanzimat. The co-existency of these old and new schools all together has brought opposite generations up to each other. This disunion at the education continued till the establisment of the Republic.During the period of Republic, first, with the help of the legiaslation of Tevhid-i Tedrisat the disunion was eliminated and then very important steps have been made in order to achieve for the education to be more modern and secular, and bring up the literacy rate to higher scales.In this study, education system from Ottoman to the Republic and education institutions at the Center of Bolu city within this duration were taken into consideration and then, in the direction of the education policy of the Republic of Turkey and developments occured in the education ? especially during the Ataturk?s period- were deeply analyzed based on the primary and secondary educational institutions and public education studies at the Center of Bolu cityWhile we examine the primary and secondary education institutions and public education achievements at the center of Bolu city during the period of Republic we see that Ataturk?s principles and reforms gave birth to many structural changes and developments. The numbers for schools, students, and teachers which are important parts of education have increased and reached to important scales. This is not only helped the increase of the number of people knowing to read and write but also it played an important role at bringing the public literacy rate up to higher stands.Key Words: Education, Education Institutions, Education Policy, City of Bolu, Education at the city of Bolu.
