Abstract (EN)

Education system during the Ottoman time had been on a religious ground.Both the primary education which was given in the schools known as the (sıbyan mektepleri) and the secondary education which was given in the schools known as the (medreseler) soleyl religives leclures and some Oriental arts werw being trained. When the list of the lectures analized this characteristic of the education programme could easily be seen.After the administrative reform known as Tanzimat which was deelared in the year 1839 the training system was radically changed. Sevaral juridical arrangements were made to improve the system. Though the system could not be lacizied totally it was modernized in several aspects. Teacher training schools known as darülmuallimin (fort he males) and darülmuallimat (fort he females) was an inportut historical turning point in Turkish education system.After the Turkish Republic was founded these effouts have been accelurated in away to wersternize and laicize the system.Darülmuallimins and darülmuallimats have been turned into Teacher?s Training Schools and their programmes been modernized.In this thesis this period of change and development in Turkish educational system has been examined.
