The duties of the kadis during military campaigns in the Ottoman Empire

As the Ottoman Empire expanded its borders, it influenced the shaping of the territorial order; The country is divided into states, the states into sanjaks, and the sanjaks into districts. There were beylerbeyis in the states, sancakbeyis in the sanjaks and kadis in the districts. From the moment the Ottoman Empire was founded, kadis, who were among the institutions of the state, were appointed to places called districts for a certain period of time and undertook to serve as judges with jurisdiction in their jurisdictions, to implement and supervise orders coming from the center, and to perform municipal services in places within their jurisdiction. In addition to their judicial, civil and administrative duties, kadis took part in expedition organizations when the state went to war both on land and at sea. In this study, the provisions in the mühimme books were classified and the XVI. from the second half of the century to the XVIII. the orders sent to kadis during the campaigns covering the period until the end of the century were examined. According to the mühimme books, the institution of the kadi and the expedition organizations were combined and the duties that the kadis were asked to perform during the expedition were tried to be determined.
