Muhammin means estimator, appraiser. We see that Muhammins have been actively involved in the Ottoman Empire since the 16th century. First of all, we see that they took part in the examination of the damages that occurred in an earthquake in 1544 and the evaluation of the damages for the repair. In addition, we understand from the archive documents that we have examined that muhammins were appointed by the Ottoman Empire to determine the materials such as stone, lime and wood required for the rebuilding of salt quarries, bridges and castles, which later became unworkable.
