The effects of the missionary in decadence of the Ottoman Empire (1839-1923)

This study, goes about the effects of the missionaryactivities in decadence of the Ottoman Empire.Weakening of the Ottomans against the western countries andin parallel to the superiority of western imperialist powers against to theOttomans, the missionary activities were increased, especially in the 19thcentury was at the top and the missioners called this century as ?golden age?.Missioners, in this period, had chosen the minority nations astheir target population especially such as Armenians, Greek (TurkishCitizenship), Bulgarian, Syriani (who uses Syrian language), and Nestorians.The minorities who lived in Ottoman land in peace for centuries, by theactivities of the missioners, had campaigned for their independence one byone and they had been very effective in the Ottoman Empire?s disintegration.?Foreign Schools? are the most prominent fact in the missionaryactivities. The countries who supported the missioners mostly such asAmerica, Great Britain, Russia and France by opening foreign schools inOttoman country had made the biggest effect on the minorities. As a result ofthe missionary activities, the Ottoman Empire lost Bulgaria, Greece,Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Syria. The Armenians whohad been called as ?Loyal Nation? revolted against the Ottoman governmentwith the effect of the missionary activities.Missionary activities, were not only religios activities but alsoresulted against the Ottomans and on the contrary, on the side of westerncountries resulted as politically, geographically, socially, economically andculturally. Furthermore, as a result The Ottomans lost totality of their nationand process of the Ottoman decay gained speed.Against the missionary activities The Ottomans had attemptedto take precautions, had made some arrangements but these precautionshadn?t resulted as they expected.
