Abstract (EN)

The aim of our doctoral thesis named "Madrid Embassy in Ottoman Diplomacy" was to discuss the diplomatic relations of the Ottoman Empire with Spain through the permanent ambassadors sent to Madrid. During our thesis research, our main objective was to identify the ambassadors and chargés d'affaires assigned to the Madrid embassy and to establish the establishment of a permanent embassy in Madrid through these representatives. Secondly, it was to show how the ambassadors' meetings in Madrid, both with Spanish state administrators and with other state officials, shaped the diplomacy of the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century. Finally, we have tried to show how the Ottoman Empire, which could not remain indifferent to the cultural and social events of the time as well as to the political events, played an active role in these fields through its ambassadors. During the preparation of this thesis entitled "The Madrid Embassy in Ottoman Diplomacy", the archival documents we obtained from the Ottoman archives of the Prime Ministry formed the basis of our thesis. Besides that, we tried to support our thesis with the literature studies published in the field of diplomacy. During our research, we benefited from the Center for Islamic Studies (İSAM), the Central Library of Istanbul University and the Library of the Faculty of Arts of Istanbul University. Keywords: Madrid, diplomacy, embassy, ambassador.
