Internationalism and a socialist workers' organization in Ottoman Empire: The socialist workers' federation of thessaloniki (1908 - 1914)

This thesis aims to discuss the reflections of the first workers' movements of the modern age in the Ottoman Empire on the Balkan peninsula by focusing on the experience of the Socialist Workers' Federation of Thessaloniki. The city of Thessaloniki, which is one of the most important examples of the 19th century modernization of the late Ottoman period, is also one of the most intense observations since the beginning of the class conflict within the empire. The economic and social development of the city, the political and economic liberalization of the Young Turk Revolution, as well as the connections with other Internationalists in the international arena, have important implications for the Thessaloniki workers' movement. At the same time, the city is one of the key points of the national problem that concerns Marxists. Therefore, this thesis focuses on the social structure of Thessaloniki and questions the international structure of the Federation and aims to make a historical and political analysis with the principle of causality by considering all these dependent variables.
