Ottoman sultan's portraits: Fihrist-i Şâhân and zeyils

In this work titled "Ottoman Sultan Portraits: Fihrist-i Şahân and Zeyilleri", Fihrist-i Şahân and Zeyilleri Sultan Portrait Album that was prepared in the 19th century and was included in the Ottoman sultan portraiture tradition that we came across after the 16th century was examined in the context of Ottoman painting art. Today, the Ottoman Sultan portrait albums, which are the contemporary of the work that is present in Suleymaniye Library Nafiz Pasha bookshelf at numbered 1183, were identified and introduced. Analyses of the texts and pictures of Fihrist-i Şahân and Zeyilleri album were examined in terms of style and iconographical characteristics considering its composition set-up, environment, architecture, figure types, clothes, background and colors. There are 92-couplet poems of Solak-zâde Mehmed Hemdemî Celebi (d. 1657/1658), 48-couplet poems of Lebib Amidi and 72-couplet poems of Said Pasa in the work. Solakzâde Hemdemi explained the enthronement and deaths of Ottomon sultans, and the important events of their periods with couplets starting from I. Osman to IV. Mehmet; Lebib Abdulgafûr Amidi from II. Süleyman (1687-91) to III. Osman (1754-57) and Said Pasha from III. Mustafa(1757-74) to II. Mahmut (1808-39). There are 32 sultan portraits in the album and there is a photograph of I. Abdulaziz (1861-76). Sultan II. Mahmud was portrayed twice with his traditional dresses and with his new dresses after the clothing reform.
