One of the Ottoman Statesman: Mahmud Celaleddın Pasha (1838-1899)

The nineteenth century is a significant period in terms of Ottoman bureaucracy. Political events, constitutional regulations and movements are among the issues that led that period to be crucial. The significance of these events makes politicians who managed those events remarkable people in the same way. Those politicians who were influential in the naming of their periods as period of "Pashas" or "Bab-i Ali" are versatile people. One of those politicians who stood out with the languages they know as well as the fields they are interested in is Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha. Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha, who was born in Vefa Istanbul in 1838, is a member of the Çorluluzade family. Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha, among the most prominent intellectuals of his era, is recognized as one of the most notable figures of his period by virtue of his statesmanship, penmanship and musicianship, as well as his historian personality. The works that he wrote during his state duties are rather precious in terms of telling the events of its own period by living perspective. The most remarkable duty of Pasha, who has many important duties, was the period that he was in Crete. He tried to solve the security problems in Crete that became the intervention area of the other states and the place that domestic disturbances increased in. Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha, who survived assassination attempt in Crete, returned to Istanbul and remained there until his death. In this study, the political events, family, works and first duties of Mahmud Celaleddin Pasha, who was one of the most eminent figures of his time, were examined.
