Qualification of the Ottoman tapu registrations: Erzurum sample

Term of archives orginally developed from the Greek arkheion and the Latin archivum words, which refers to official institution and municipality palace. For this reason this term has also been used to mean the collection of regular official documents of a particular institution and the place where these written documents are kept and protected. Because of its significance in the Ottoman Empire, it is called the Hazine-i Evrâk or the Mahzen-i Evrâk. This prove that Ottoman gave greatg importance to archives. Archival practices, which continue to exist today, play an important role in demanding among individuals, institutions and state. The historical history of the General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre is old and it is based on the ''Defterhâne-i Âmire'' established in the Ottoman Empire.In the Tanzimat period, the title Register Archives which were transferred to Defter-i Hâkânîye and it was transformed into General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre in the republic period. In this study, the Register Archives in the inventory of the 8th Regional Directorate affiliated to General Directorate of Land Registry and Cadastre were examined.
