Teaching sociodramatic plays to children with autism spectrum disorder through video modeling

The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of video modeling to teach sociodramatic plays to children with autism spectrum disorder. The study was conducted in partnership with 3 boys and 1 girl aged 6 to 9 and diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The study was designed in accordance with the multiple probe design, one of the single subject research models. The dependent variable of the study is their behaviors and lines regarding the relation between a greengrocer and a customer as a part of a play. The study also looked into the views of the families about teaching sociodramatic plays to children with autism spectrum disorder, and the video modeling adopted to teach them. The findings of the study showed that video modeling is effective in teaching sociodramatic plays to children with ASD. In addition, the follow-up sessions proved that the subjects were able to adopt the skills, which were acquired as a part of the play to act as a greengrocer and a customer, for different roles, and maintain their skills for both roles even 15 days after the end of the teaching sessions. The social validity findings of the study indicated that the families of the subjects expressed positive views regarding the sociodramatic plays taught, and the video modeling.
