2.ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to asses the effect of antioxidants on the damage of rats ovary created by ischemia-reperfusion that is experimentally made. MATERIAL-METHODS: Fourty-two female wistard- albino rats at eostrus phase randomly seperated in the six groups. This study is prospectively, one side blinded study. Group l: Sham gruop (n=7) only left ovary tissue sample and blood sample were taken. Group 2: Ischemia group (n=7) At this group ischemia is applied to the left ovary for 60 minutes. Group 3: ischemia- reperfusion group(n=7). At this group both ischemia and reperfusion applied to the left ovary for 60 minutes. Group 4,5,6 are exposed to PgEl 25 mcg/kg, i.m; melathonin 20 mg/kg/ i.m; vitamine E 500 mg/kg/i.m at the forty-fifth minute of the ischemia. The fifty percent of the left ovary is researched histopathologically; the rest is used for the malondialdehyde level tissue. Blood samples of all rats are taken from inferior vena cava for biochemical parameters(MDA, GPx, SOD) FINDINGS: At the ischemia- reperfusion group ovary histopathology, tissue MDA levels and blood chemical parameters (MDA, GPx, SOD) are negatively effected (p<0.02 Mann Whitney U test). The damage is much more at this group than ischemia group and this is statistically meaningful (p<0.02 Mann Whitney U test). The effect of antioxidants are as follows: melathonin, PgEl, Vitamine E. There is negative correlation between ovary histopathology and superoxide dismutase.(r= -0.8, p=0.000, n=42). Positive correlation between tissue and plasma MDA levels and over histopathology and also negative correlation between over histopathology and glutathion peroxidase( r=-0.5, p=0.000, n=42) levels according to Spearman's analysis. RESULTS: The antioxidant medication especially melathonin usage may decrease the ovary damage at ischemia-reperfusion injury. KEY WORDS: Ischemia-reperfusion injury, antioxidants, ovary
