The use of acting methodology in singing education

In this thesis, it has been tried to come up with an answer to the main three subproblems regarding the use of acting methodology in singing education: The general approach to singing education in our country, the experiences and ideas of professional opera singers about the acting of opera singer and lastly, the ideas of the experts working as professional singer and singing teacher about their field and acting as a part of singing education. According to the answers of the professional singers and educators about the general approach to singing education in our country, these conclusions has been arrived: Although there is a systematic approach on the music education in the departments of music education and in the conservatories, it has been not given any acting education in the departments of music education, and the acting education in the conservatories is not systematic and depends on the lecturer. In the examine of the second subproblem, the necessity of the acting training in the singing education has been disclosed according to the experiences and the information on the professional requirements of the interviewed singers. In the third subproblem, the main requirements and qualifications of an opera singer has been searched and it has been understood that an opera singer should also be an actor/actress. In general, the main theoretical acting education methodology has been accepted in the thesis as the methodology of Mihail Chekhov and achieved findings are compared with the methodology of Chekhov. According this comparison the selected methodology and the findings has been matched each other and it has been claimed that this methodology could be the theoritical basis of the proposed scene and acting training in the singing education.
