Abstract (EN)
The lack of emphasis on sustainability in building design and construction processes has a major negative impact on increasing global warming, climate change, and the depletion of energy resources. In order to mitigate these negative effects, the concept of building design, which is environmentally friendly and able to use natural resources efficiently, has gained importance in the construction industry. The importance given to the issue increased rapidly since the 1990s after the United Nations first noted the necessity of sustainability in construction in 1987. Today, sustainable building opportunities are being evaluated in terms of different building typologies. Nevertheless, the development of solutions to ensure sustainability in the design of educational institutions is of particular importance. Thanks to the design of school buildings in accordance with the sustainable design approach, it becomes possible to ensure sufficient awareness of children and youth to protect their vital resources and support the processes of their healthy development and learning. In this regard, it is necessary to assess the main sustainability criteria in the design processes both when acquiring new school buildings and when developing facilities in existing schools. However, there are a small number of schools in the world that are designed in accordance with the principles of sustainable construction. Fewer case studies are seen in developing countries. Therefore, studies that shed light on the development of the existing educational environment, provide recommendations for addressing shortcomings in this area. In this context, the aim of the study is to provide a method that will help to achieve positive conditions in terms of sustainability in modern educational environments. The study examined the main problems in terms of sustainability in school design. Successful school structures designed according to sustainability criteria were studied. The importance of sustainability in the construction industry and educational architecture in a developing country was assessed, and the quality of the most common type of schools in Tashkent was evaluated in terms of sustainable building design criteria. In the field, school No.198. in Tashkent was chosen as an example. Keywords: Sustainability, sustainable architecture, sustainable schools
