Özet (EN)
Introduction and Aim: Esophageal cancer is the 6 th leading cause of death from cancer and the 8 th most common cancer in the world. Five-year survival is around 15% - 25%, and survival is generally related to early diagnosis. In this study, we aimed to investigate the factors affecting treatment response and survival in patients with esophageal cancer.. Material and Method: In this study, patients over the age of 18 who were admitted to the Medical Oncology outpatient clinic of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine between January 2010 and December 2020, who were diagnosed with AC, received outpatient treatment or were hospitalized, were retrospectively analyzed. The average and general survival times of the patients included in the study and the patient characteristics at the time of diagnosis, laboratory values, and treatment modalities were investigated. Results: In our study, the data of 100 patients diagnosed with esophageal cancer were analyzed. The median age and mean age of the patients were 58 (18-90). 38 (38%) of the patients were female and 62 (62%) were male. The number of patients under the age of 50 was 29 (29%), and the number of patients over the age of 50 was 71 (71%). The mean follow-up period of the patients was 16 months, and the median follow-up period was 11 months. 74 (74%) of the patients were dead and 26 (26%) were alive. Kaplan-meier analysis revealed mean survival time of 26 (st deviation 3.17; CI: 20.1-32.5) months. The median survival time was 15 months. As a result of the statistical analysis performed, it was found that the advanced stage and age negatively affect the survival of the male gender. Conclusion: In our study, three important parameters such as age, sex and stage were observed prognostic factors affecting survival in esophageal cancer.
