The epidemiology and perception of personality disorders in a special sample

The purpose of the current study is to investigate the prevalence and perception of personality disorders. For his purpose, to the 52 of the Aydın Adnan Menderes University employees, who were chosen by random assignment, were given DIP-Q and SCID-II interview form to assess the personality disorders; and Vignette cards, which were prepared by the investigaters, to assess their perception of personality disorders.At the end of the analysis it was found that the prevalence of personalitiy disorder rates are high in normal population, but this rate was reduced substantially by the end of SCID-II interwiev. At the assessment intended for perception, it was seen that the participants evaluated all of the personality disorders negatively. But whereas especially Schizotypal and Antisocial personality disorders were perceived the most negative and Avoidant, Dependent and Obsessive-compulsive personality disorders were perceived more positive than the others. There was no significant relationship between personality and personality disorders.There was no significant relationship between personality characteristics and perceiving personality disorders.As there is a few study about perceiving personality disorders in a normal population, this study is useful for filling this area. On the other hand, as found in every study there were some obstacles, the main of them was the smallness of sample.
