The relationship between the level of emphatic tendency and resilience for parents of children with special education needs

This research was done to learn the relationship between the level of emphatic tendency and resilience for parents of children with special education needs. This study was based on 160 parents with children who need special education, in the limits of Bahcelievler of Istanbul. Empathy Tendency Scale that measures the level of empathy of Children with Intellectual Disability, Resilience Scales that measures the level of emphaty and Demographic Information Scale were applied. Within this study, several statistical methods were used to analize the obtained data. For scales showing non-normal distribution properties, Spearman Correlation Test was conducted. In case of two groups with above statistical properties to determinethe differences between groups, Mann Whitney U test and in case of more than two groups Kruskal Wallis test were used. To determine the group which causes the difference in the analysis, Mann Whitney U test was used. According to the results of this research, there is a positive correlation between the level of emphatic tendency and resilience for the parents with children who need special education. The scores of the resilience scale for adults and emphatic tendency scaleare varying according to gender, perceived income level and having more than are children with disability of parents.
