The effect of coaching offered with online Bug-In-Ear (BIE) technology to mothers with children with special needs on children's acquisition domestic skills

Purpose: In this study, the effects of coaching offered to mothers with special needs children using online Bug In Ear (BIE) technology on mothers' teaching their children domestic skills by the use of simultaneous prompting, mothers' maintaining the procedure steps they have acquired and maintaining of the domestic skills acquired by their children even after the teaching procedure is over, mothers' teaching their children a different domestic skill by the use of simultaneous prompting on children's generalization of their acquired domestic skills to different people and tools are investigated. Method: In this study, one of the single-subject research models, a nested multiple probe design across mother-child dyads was used twice. Four mothers and their children with mild intellectual disabilities aged between 11 and 17 participated in the study. Results: The findings of the study revealed that the mothers were able to use the simultaneous prompting through coaching provided with BIE technology, that their children learned the targeted domestic skills, that the mothers maintained using of simultaneous prompting and their children maintained the domestic skills which have been acquired, that the mothers used the simultaneous prompting procedure to teach a different domestic skill and it was also revealed that it was effective on children's generalization of their acquired domestic skills to different people and tools. In addition, the opinions of the mothers about the social validity of the study were positive. Conclusion and Suggestions: According to the results of the research, all of the participant mothers taught their children targeted domestic skills by using the coaching provided by BIE technology with simultaneous prompting. All of the mothers continued to use the simultaneous prompting steps and the children maintained the domestic skill they had acquired. According to the results of the research, mothers were able to teach a different domestic skill to their children by using simultaneous prompting, and children were able to generalize their acquired domestic skills to different people and tools. In addition, the opinions of the mothers about the social validity of the study were positive. In order to expand the research findings, it is recommended to conduct coaching researches with BIE technology with children with different disabilities and their families, and to determine research results by determining different goals.
