Abstract (EN)

The main aim of the research is to examine the level of self-esteem and self-confidence of students studying at the secondary level of private educational institutions and actively engaged in sports. In addition, another goal of the study is to determine whether there are significant differences in the orientation of self-esteem and self-confidence according to some demographics of athletes. In this context, when personal information form developed by the researcher using for research purposes, "Rosenberg self-esteem scale" was used for self-esteem orientations to be determined, which used on sample of two hundred and five people in high school and developed by Rosenberg (1963) and adapted into Turkish by Çuhadaroğlu (1986). "The 33 articles and 5 likert type self-confidence scale" developed by Akin (2007) was used to determine self-confidence levels. Students studying in private educational institutions in Hatay province in the 2020-2021 academic year constitute the universe of the study, while the sample group consists of a total of 379 actively engaged in sports, 214 women and 165 men with an average age of 16.02 ± 1.12. Correlation coefficient was used to examine the relationship between self-confidence and self-esteem in order to achieve the purpose of the research. When the results of the analysis were examined, it was found that there was a high level of negative relationship between self-esteem and self-confidence. It has also been found that there is a moderate negative relationship between self-esteem and external self-confidence and internal self-confidence. Given that participants who scored high on the self-esteem scale had low self-esteem, we can say that participants who had high self-esteem also had high self-confidence levels.
