The idea of ​​self-government, its practices and criticism of Turkish experiment

History of humanity has produced concepts such as democracy, state, economy, society, art, ideology etc. with the birth of civiliziation and these concepts have been used as tools for a happier lives in human history. However, concepts of democracy and state occupies a distinct place in political philosophers' ideas. Is freedom of people more valuable than the state's position over humans' lives and its existence that ensures freedom of people? Even that philosophical question would lead to a basic answer regarding to governance. However, when these answers are analyzed, it is seen that these answers provide a base for the pursuit of political theories by political theorists. Karl Marx's piece named "Thesis on Feuerbach" would help social scientists to understand Marx's idea of stateless society that is implicit in social relations that sees human essence in individual's own reality and Hegel's state idealism seen as a divine authority and values regarding to these two concepts and also relationship between democracy and state will be understood. In this framework, democracy would continue to build several models to limit state's position against people and even to limit it as little as possible. One of these models is self government. The idea of self government is suggested to defend poeple's freedom, equality and wholism against state. However, this idea has been misused in lots of discourse and policies. The term self government is being used by Western intelligentsia in the last 200 years but in Turkey it has been discussed since 1970s. In this study, difficulty in defining the term selfgovernment is acknowledged and therefore the term is studied in detail. Beyond its theoritical frame, its inpracticality in Turkey has been discussed. Although values of state and people have been discussed in the West for 200 years, Turkey's ruler has understanding of "state lives for sake of people" and saying of "no state equals to a drop of tonicity" by its most powerful monarch.
