Abstract (EN)

In this PhD thesis, the design, synthesis and characterization of four new donor-acceptor (D-A) dyes have been carried out which can be used in production of p type dye-sensitized solar cells (p-type DSSCs) and tandem DSSC, with nickel(II) oxide (NiO) based photocathodes. These synthesized organic semiconductor dyes have been characterized by 1H-NMR,13C-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopic means. Their photophysical properties were also determined by UV-Vis, fluorescence spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry (CV). In addition, these organic semiconductor dyes in the ground state and excited state have been investigated by utilizing computational quantum chemical methods. In particular, all the geometries were optimized and characterized by utilizing DFT-B3LYP method. These synthesized organic semiconductor dyes were named 4,4'-((4-(10- (tert-butyl)-7-oxo-7H-benzo[de]benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-a]isoquinolin-4 yl)phenyl)azanediyl)dibenzoic acid (PG09), 4,4'-((4-(1,3-dioxo-2-(pentadecan-8 yl)-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[de]isoquinolin-6-yl)phenyl)azanediyl)dibenzoic acid(PG11), 4',4''-[(4'-cyanobiphenyl-4-yl)imino]dibiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid(PG19) ve 4',4''-[(4'-nitrobiphenyl-4-yl)imino]dibiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid(PG15). These D-A dyes incorporate triphenylamine (TPA) as a donor and naphthylimidazole (NMI), naphthylimide (NIM), nitrobenzene (NB) and benzonitrile (BN) as acceptor groups. These organic dyes have two carboxylate groups which play an important role for anchoring to the NiO surface. Keywords: p-type DSSC, triphenylamine (TPA), DFT, donor-acceptor
