The affects of anxiety sensitivity and temperament and charecter features on treatment at panic disorder

Objective: The purpose of the study is to determine the effect of the factors especially anxiety sensitivity and temperament and character features on temperament at panic disorder. According to our knowledge there isn?t a study which looks into both of anxiety sensitivity and temperament and character features. Assessment of these states which can be associated with each aother, having a potential of supplying new knowledge in this region.Methods: The patients? cards in Celal Bayar Üniversity Medical Faculty Psychiatry Policlinic, was searched. The adres information of panic disorder patients were reached. With phone callings the patients were invited for the interview. 96 panic disorder patients accepted coming to hospital for the interview. These 96 patients composed the sample of the study. The patients who shorter 1 year passed after the first application to the policlinic and didn?t accept to participate the study were excluded. The patients were assessed SCID to confirm the first diagnosis and to define present and previous mental diagnosis. Then, sociodemographic data form were applied. Hamilton Anxiety Scale, Panic and Agoraphobia Scale were applied by the interviewer. Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 and Temperament and Character Inventory were applied by self reporting.Results: There wasnt any significant difference between sociodemographic features of remitted and nonremitted patient groups in this study but clinically suicidal ideation were significantly higher in medical history of nonremitted patient group (p=0.026). When psychomethric tests compared, anxiety sensitivity found similar in both groups but self directedness was significantly higher in remitted group in terms of temperament and character features.Conclusions: In conclusion, we found previous sucidial ideation was the only relating factor among factors affecting demographic and clinical features of panic disorder remission. As we dont have the information if there was a depressive syndrome at the time of previous suicidal ideation we cant determine depression affect on suicidal ideation. Anxiety sensitivity wasnt found an affecting factor on panic disorder remission. Self directedness was found the only affecting factor on panic disorder remission in terms of temperament and character features. İn literature research about panic disorder and anxiety sensitivity, its emphasized that anxiety sensitivity is an alterated feature by different treatment modalities but as the term is not actually identified yet, comments about anxiety sensitivity on treatment success is not available. We found higher points on self directedness in remitted patient group. About treatment modalities of remitted patients, even a cognitive behavioral therapy wasnt recorded and they have had only pharmacotherapy, its possible that cognitive capacities of patients are such improved that they can deal with the term of fear in panic disorder accordingly feature of self directedness is corralated with this situation.
