Abstract (EN)
Objective: The main aim of this paper is to analyse the diagnostic value of biopsy of parotid fine needle aspiration (BFNA) in the evaluation of Parotid lesions by retrospectively comparing the results of BFNA with the operated histopathologic cases. Materials and Methods: We have studied the effectiveness of BFNA on Parotis masses by comparing retrospectivley the preoperative BFNA results and the operation materials of 80 patients' who have undergone an operation in Otolaryngology clinic of Medicine Faculty of Dicle University during last five years (2010-2015) Indications: 44 number of patients were male (55%) and 36 were female (45%), and a the average age was 47,8 (range from 13 to 94 years). BFNA was regarded as benign in 68 of our 80 patients. 65 of them (95,5%) were diagnosed as benign in postoperative histopathology. 11 (91,6%) out of 12 patients reported as malignant by BFNA were confirmed in postoperative diagnosis. In the evaluation of the lesions confirmed histopathologically, sensitivity of patients was detected to be 78,5%, and the specificity to be 98,4%. The positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive values (NPV) was found to be 91,6% and 95,5% respectively; which makes the accuracy to be 95%. Conclusion: In patients with parotid masses, BFNA as an statistical and assistive method is an effective method that can be used safely.
