Özet (EN)
ABSTRACT THE COMPARISON OF PREMEDICATION EFFECTS OF INTRAMUSCULAR DEXMEDETOMIDINE AND MIDAZOLAM IN PEDIATRIC CASES Although there are studies that reported dexmedetomidine, a new sedative agent, useful as premedication in adults; studies in pediatric cases are rare. Thus, we aimed to compare the premedication effects of dexmedetomidine and midazolam on peroperative anesthesia management and postoperative analgesia and sedation. 60 children, aged between 4 to 13, with ASA physical status 1 and II, undergoing short-median surgical procedures were included in the study. Children were randomly divided into 2 groups to receive midazolam 50 mcg/kg (group I), and dexmedetomidine 2mcg/kg (group II) intramuscularly. Preoperative anxiety and aactivities of cases before entering the operation room responses to mask and intraoperative anesthesia requirements were evaluated. CHEOPS and sedation scores were recorded postoperatively during 2 hours. We concluded that mtrarnuskular dexmedetomidine is effective and safe as a premedication agent, decreased preoperative anxiety and activity significantly more than midazolam, and did not effect hemodynamic parameters in pediatric cases. Key words: Pediatric cases, premedication, dexmedetomidine, midazolam. VH
