We purpose to evaluate the bilateral hippocampus volumes and ADC values in comparison with the control group in a pediatric patient group with idiopathic partial epilepsy. In this study, 27 patients who were diagnosed with idiopathic partial epilepsy with EEG and clinical findings between 1-18 years of age were retrospectively determined. As a control group, 20 children with similar age and who applied to our hospital with nonspecific complaints such as headache and dizziness and cranial MRI were evaluated. Patients and children with intracranial masses with known etiology of congenital disease, acquired neurodegenerative disease, intracranial infection or perinatal involvement in the patient and control group were not included in the study. Drawings, volumetric measurements and ADC measurements were performed by two different evaluators (one was a neuroradiologist and the other was a radiologist officer). Compared with the control group, the study group showed a decrease in hippocampal and amygdala volumes, but the results were only significant for the left hippocampus. Compared to the control group in the comparison of the ADC values of the patient grup were increased but findings were statistically significant only in the left amygdala. In the study performed in pediatric patients with idiopathic partial epilepsy, hippocampal and amygdala volumes decreased on the same side as the seizure focus, but ADC values were not significantly different.
