Abstract (EN)

OBJECTİVE: Our study aims to show the expression level of the pendrin protein which has proven role in the pathogenesis of hypertension, analyze by immunohistochemical staining of placental bed biopsies especially in subgroups of preeclampsia (early-onset PE-late onset PE) and gestational hypertension cases by this way to contribute to the efforts on solving the enigmatic hypertensive states of the pregnancy. METHODS: This prospective study was approved by Clinic Investigations Ethics Committee of Faculty of Medicine, Dokuz Eylül University. In our study, patients who were followed in our clinic between the dates of March 2014 and February 2015, preeclampsia and gestational hypertension diagnosed set according to the criteria and birth again in which taken placental bed biopsies by cesarean section in our clinic, in these cases pendrin protein were comparatively analyzed immunohistochemistry with a healthy control group.Group 1: early and late onset PE (n=28) ,Group 2: gestational hypertension (n=7) and Group 3: healthy control group (n=30).Sections were scored by two pathologists, blinded to the sections identity ;using a semiquantitative score: 0=negative, +1=mild, +2=moderate and +3=intense. RESULTS: In our study, 78 placental bed biopsies were evaluated and 65 patients were included in accordance with the study. The pendrin was negative in 40 patients from a total of 65 cases. The staining in 25 cases, in 21 cases, respectively slight staining, moderate staining in 3 cases and 1 case occurred in dense staining.Moderate and intense staining in Group 1, Group 2 mild and moderate staining was detected. However, pendrin staining intensity between the groups were not statistically significant differences (p>0,05). CONCLUSİON: The pendrin overexpression was observed in the placental bed in cases of preeclampsia and gestational hypertension for the pathogenesis but there was no significant difference between the groups.
