Epilepsy is a disease characterized by a par tor whole of the central nervous system cause with abnormal discharges. Approximately 65 million people worldwide have epilepsy and it has been reported that 40-70 / 100,000 new cases are added to this number every year. Adverse effects of antiepileptic drugs used by these patients for treatment are quite broad. S-adenosylmethionine (SAM-e) is the major biological methyl donor. It is synthesized in the cytosol of every cell and is mainly used in transmethylation reactions. Thus, the methyl group is transferred to a wide variety of acceptor substrates, including DNA, histones and other proteins, as well as phospholipids. Considering the critical role of methylation in determining various cellular processes, the critical role of abnormalities in SAM-e metabolism in the development of neurological and psychiatric diseases is better understood. The link between methyl transfer reactions and epilepsy is well known. However, studies evaluating the effect of SAM-e on epilepsy are lacking. It is thought to have potential antiepileptic properties due to its involvement in the S-adenosylmethionine transmethylation reaction. In this study, 2-3 months old male Sprague dawley rats (n=49) weighing 230±30 g will be used. Rats; Control was given to rats with epilepsy as 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg SAM-e 2 hours before the seizure and 50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg SAM-e during the seizure. It is divided into 7 groups. Differences between groups. The differences in groups created by SAM-e applied before and during the seizure will be examined with the Kruskal-Wallis test. Groups with statistically significant differences will be determined by post hocDunn test. P <0.05 will be accepted as statistical significance level. PASW program will be used in the analysis. As a result of this study; The effects of SAM-e supplementation in preventing or alleviating seizures in penicillin G-induced epileptic mice will be investigated.
