This study explored using olive pomace (OP) waste as biomass for bitumen modification, comparing it with widely used styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) modified bitumen in terms of performance and cost. Both OP and SBS binders underwent conventional and rheological experiments. Modified asphalt binders were created by adding OP (4-30% by weight) and SBS (4-4.5% by weight) to pure B 50/70 penetration bitumen. Test results showed similar effects, reducing penetration and temperature sensitivity while increasing the softening point. Critical ratios were found at 19% for OP and 4% for SBS. Optimal bitumen contents were determined via the Marshall method, using pure B 50/70 bitumen, 19% OP, and 4% SBS for Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures. Marshall stability tests revealed OP-modified bitumen's increased elasticity at high temperatures, especially with 19% OP addition, making it a potential alternative to 4% SBS in overall performance. In conclusion, OP can serve as a corrective additive in asphalt modification, improving pavement performance while minimizing environmental damage caused by waste materials.
