Abstract (EN)

The performance-based plastic design method is a very effective method that uses the target displacement and the mechanism state as design criteria at the beginning of the design. In many design methods determined by codes, the mechanism status and the performance status of the structure are determined after the design is made. In addition, these methods used in codes require many nonlinear analyzes after preliminary design. These can be extraordinarily iterative and time-consuming. However, the structures designed with the design targets determined in the codes do not give information about the excellent results of the earthquakes. To compare the easy application of the performance-based plastic design method and this method with the design methods according to the deformation given in the codes, two 4 and 9-story steel frame structures were used. All details and tables related to the performance-based plastic design method were obtained, and these structures were designed according to both methods. These structures were then evaluated by nonlinear pushover analysis and time history analysis. Most of the analysis was carried out with Sap 2000 program, and Python programming language was used throughout the thesis. Shear forces, lateral load distribution, bottom shear forces, and maximum relative displacement values obtained from nonlinear analysis methods were compared.
