Abstract (EN)
Objective: It is the evaluation of periodontal disease effect of bactericidal permeabilty protein inhibitör (BPI) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) before and after treatment in patients with periodontal disease. Method: Thirty systemically healthy and non-smoking individuals with periodontitis were included in the study. Before non-surgical periodontal treatment, the clinical parameters of plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), probing pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), bleeding on probing (BOP) were measured. The gingival fluid samples were taken using the paper strip method. The same procedures were repeated at 6 weeks and 6 months after non-surgical periodontal treatment. ELISA method was used for the analysis of the samples. Results: GCF levels significantly decreased from baseline values at 6 weeks and 6 months after periodontal treatment without GCF levels. A truly significant decrease was seen between the 6th week and the 6th month. GCF BPI levels decreased statistically significantly at 6 weeks and 6 months after non-surgical periodontal treatment, but there was no significant difference between 6 weeks and 6 months. All clinical parameters decreased significantly at 6 weeks and 6 months. (p <0.05) Conclusion: Non-surgical periodontal treatment applied to patients with periodontitis significantly decreased the GCF BPI levels of the patients at the 6th week and 6th month after the treatment compared to the baseline values. More studies are needed to investigate the effect of the BPI molecule on periodontal treatment. Keywords: Periodontitis, BPI, IL-1β
