Abstract (EN)
Evaluation The Effect Of Periodontal-Accelerated Treatment Protocols On The Rate Of Tooth Movement Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of micro-osteoperforations (MOPs), which is a minimal-invasive surgical method, on the rate of orthodontic tooth movement. Method: Seventeen patients (6 boys and 11 girls) who had Class II molar relationship and planned molar distalization with cervical headgear were included the study. In our study, Propel that is a Class 1 medical device with FDA approval was used in split- mouth design to apply MOPs clinically. The experimental side received MOPs with Propel and the control side received no MOPs and 34 sides were assessed. 3D digital models, panoramic and cephalometric films; that were taken just before the molar distalization (T0) and at the end of the molar distalization (T1), constituded our study materials. Results: According to our results, the amount of molar distalization between T0-T1 were statistically significant in experimental group (5,11±1,28 mm) performed MOPs with Propel compared to the control group (4,08±1,20 mm) (p<0,05). There was no statistically significant differences between two groups in terms of tooth movement rate, amount of molar tipping and rotations. In cephalometric evaluation; statistically significant increase were occurred in vertikal dimensions (p<0,05). Upper and lower incisor inclinations decreased and slight retrusion of upper lip were observed after distalization (p<0,05). Conclusion: The MOP procedure is an effective method of increasing the amount of tooth movement and can be applied in shortening the duration of treatment. Key words: Accelerated orthodontics, micro-osteoperforation, molar distalization, three dimensional digital model.
