Özet (EN)

Periodontal diseases are inflammatory diseases characterized by the destruction of periodontal supporting tissues. Especially when the disease affects the teeth in the anterior region, esthetics may be negatively affected and aesthetic dissatisfaction may cause a decrease in the individual's self-esteem. The aim of our study is to determine the levels of aesthetic perception and self-esteem in individuals with different periodontal diseases who admitted to our clinic and to examine their relationship with each other. 200 individuals were included in our study. For the purpose of evaluating and diagnosing periodontal clinical conditions, plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), bleeding on probing index (BOP), probable pocket depth (PD), clinical attachment level (CAL), recession dept (RD) and mobility were measured. Then, demographic data, oral hygiene habits, periodontal aesthetics and self-esteem questionnaires were recorded. For statistical analysis of the study data; Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Chi-square, Oneway-ANOVA and Post Hoc LSD tests were used. In our study, it was found that education level and dwelling place had positive effects on all scores, oral hygiene habits had positive effects on PAPS scores and monthly income level had a positive effect on RSES scores, while smoking had a negative effect on PAPS-e score. PAPS scores were the lowest in the periodontitis group and the highest in the healthy group. PAPS-e scores were significantly lower in the Miller III group than in the Miller I group. It was observed that the presence of mobility negatively affected PAPS scores. There was a negative correlation between PAPS scores and all clinical parameters other than RD and maxillary gingival recession depth, and a positive correlation between RSES score and only PI parameter. There was a significant negative correlation between PAPS and RSES scores. According to our study, it can be said that the increase in periodontal aesthetic satisfaction is associated with the increase in self-esteem. Further studies are needed in the future, in which all parameters are evaluated in detail and the patient population is large.
