Determining the knowledge level, disease management and complication frequency of parents of children receiving peritoneal dialysis

One of the most important treatment methods for end-stage renal failure is peritoneal dialysis. As the awareness level of families of children receiving peritoneal dialysis increases, their ability to coordinate the disease increases and possible infections are controlled. This study was conducted to determine the knowledge level, disease management and frequency of complications of parents of children receiving peritoneal dialysis. The sample of the study consists of 50 parents of children receiving peritoneal dialysis between the ages of 0-18. In the study, data were collected using the "Introductory Information Form", the "Parent Information Form on Peritoneal Dialysis", which was created by scanning the literature and taking the opinions of 5 experts, the "Parent Complication Evaluation Form on Peritoneal Dialysis" and the Child Chronic Disease Management Scale: Family Form. In evaluating the data; Shapiro Wilk, t test, analysis of variance were used. Analyzes were carried out with the help of SPSS 26.0 program and evaluated according to the significance level of p < 0,05. When comparing the scale score and subscale scores according to sociodemographic characteristics, it was observed that there was no statistically significant difference (p>0,05). As a result of the research, no relationship was found between the level of knowledge of the parents, disease management and the frequency of complications, and studies with larger samples are needed on this subject.
