Examination of Peyami Safa's children's books in terms of values education

Values are beacons of individuals. It is the values that direct individuals to the truth and to the good. The ten core values of justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism, benevolence were blended with the education programs, added to the Values Education curriculum by the Turkish Ministry of National Education. It is aimed to gain values to students by making use of education programs. Books, which are one of the most used educational materials in education, are also very important in gaining values. Bringing together the value - rich works of important names in Turkish literature with children supports effective value acquisition. The aim of this research was to determine the root values (justice, honesty, love, patience, friendship, responsibility, self-control, helpfulness, respect) an nounced by the Ministry of National Education (MNE) in the books of Peyami SAFA (Oğuz and İnci, Brave Children, Halit and Belma, Two Oxen Friends, Flying Steed, Brave Seafarer, Little Buddies, Beberuhi, The Child Who Fell in the Well, The Woodcutter's Daughter) . Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in the research. The obtained data were analyzed with descriptive analysis. Values in the books are explained using tables and graphics. The most common value in the books was determined as benevolence, and the least included value was patriotism.
